Dr Vesa Virtanen  received his Master of Science(MSc) in Chemistry from University of Oulu, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Chemistry from the University of Oulu, Finland. He has docentship in analytical chemistry at University of Oulu. He has over 20 years of experience in research at the University of Oulu, different pharmaceutical companies, University Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg, France), University of Tübingen (Germany) and at Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (European Commission/ Joint Research Centre/ Belgium). His special areas of expertise are in several fields of analytical chemistry. His published works, more than 100 scientific papers, include fields like analytics of pharmaceuticals, biomolecules, metalloproteins and milkproteins. He is currently director of a biotechnology laboratory at Kajaani University Consortium, a department of University of Oulu among other topics with development of  tools for diagnosis and detection of biomolecules and metals involved in environmental and in human physiology corresponding to physical stress.
