Russell has held a number of key international management positions at a range of life science companies including Munich-based genomics solutions provider MWG Biotech and microbiology instrumentation specialist Don Whitley Scientific, in Leeds. Before that, Russell spent 15 years as Chief Technician in Nuclear Submarines for the British Royal Navy.

In his spare time, Russell likes distance running and has completed the London marathon. He loves to walk and mountain-bike in his native Yorkshire Dales, North England.
