Peter is Professor for Bioprocess Engineering at the University of Oulu since 2000. His main research areas include expression of recombinant proteins and their high cell density production as well as bioprocess scale-down approaches. His group pioneered expression of Wnts and collagen prolyl-4-hydroxylase in E. coli  and his group developed new tools for high throughput screening such as the Senbit® and EnBaseTM systems. He has an eminent career in Bioprocess Engineering, documented by more than 70 publications and 7 patents, spanning 20 years and several countries. His PhD on high cell density processes for production of recombinant protein production was carried out at the Microbiology Institute of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald, Germany.

From 1992-95 he performed his research  in the lab of Sven-Olof Enfors at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH in Stockholm, before spending five years in charge of the bioproduction plant at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. Most recently he founded Oulu-based BioSilta Oy, the company behind EnBaseTM, as a spin-off of his laboratory´s research.
