Anna Maria Mattila

Dr. Anna Maria Mattila (née Pirttilä) has graduated from the University of Oulu, Biochemistry in 1996 and obtained her Ph.D. at the Department of Biology, Oulu, in 2001 with the topic “Endophytes in the buds of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)". She has gained post-doctoral experience during 2001- 2004 in the laboratories of Prof. S. Gelvin and Prof. C. Woloshuk at Purdue University, Indiana, USA, at the Departments of Biological Sciences and Botany and Plant Pathology, respectively. She has obtained the Docentship (Adjunct Professor in Molecular Plant and Microbiology) at the Department of Biology, University of Oulu in 2004 and the Assistant Professorship in 2006. Currently she is conducting research at the Research Fellow position of the Academy of Finland. She is coordinating two EU 7th Framework Programme projects and leads a research group concentrated on developmental aspects and biotechnological applications of potato and Scots pine and their interactions with beneficial microbes.
